Kevin
Brookhouser
Director of Technology & Innovation
Bio
Friend, father, spouse, teacher, technologist, author, cyclist, skier, surfer, the list goes on...Is there anything this talented individual cannot do?? Kevin taught English and history for over fifteen years beginning as a graduate fellow teaching world literature and creative writing at Lynchburg College. After earning his M.Ed., Kevin moved to Crested Butte, Colorado to instruct snowboarding in the mornings and English and history in the afternoons at a ski academy for aspiring Olympians. From there, Kevin moved to San Francisco to float on the dot-com bubble, working in the marketing department of an online auction company until the call back to teach rang too loudly, at which time he moved to Squaw Valley to teach in the classroom and on the snow once again. In 2002 Kevin and his new bride, Beth, moved to her hometown, Monterey County, to pursue his teaching career at York and her career at the SPCA. Kevin and Beth now have two beautiful children, Sam and Wally. Kevin Brookhouser is a modern Renaissance Man and his time at York School has been one of evolution and revolution, evolution in the number of skills he has attained and expanded, revolution in assisting York School with the rapidly changing world of education, and how technology can expand and empower the breath and width of the student educational experience. York faculty are in the enviable position of having a colleague on campus who is a Google Certified Teacher, TEDx organizer, podcaster, videographer, and author (The 20 Time Project and Code in Every Class). All these personal attributes and achievements are under the radar, as Kevin is a humble individual who is more interested in the process and impact than the personal resume. Kevin is affable, approachable, and most importantly, invaluable in his role as Director of Technology and Innovation. He inspires and empowers the students, faculty, and staff daily with his insatiable curiosity, childlike excitement, and efficient growth mindset. His daily quote is, "We can do that", with no hint of skepticism, which empowers all who work with him to dive in and get involved in the exciting world education and new intellectual discovery.
